Summarized by Angila Singh:
Started with meditation, anulom vilom.
Initial Q&A
- Role of mind during meditation. Is the mind constantly engaged in meditation ? The idea is to empower the intellect to ignore input from sensory objects, for example – ignoring the sounds that one may hear during meditation like lawn mowers etc. During meditation one can be in a state that depicts- “I” am, let “thoughts” be.
- We talked about the role of Sadhana for the entire family.
- We talked about Sadguru’s initiative about raising world consciousness. If everyone spends 15 mins a day focused inwards, then a lot can be improved, and this effect will cascade into the masses. It relates to the modern day "me" time concept. Me time doesn’t mean binge watching, tv, phones etc.
Continuing the theme from Ch7 shlokas 14,15 and 16
· What is Ishwara ?
Para – Chetna, Nirguna, Nirvikar
Apara – Achetna, Saguna, Savikar
· Krishna outlined the human problem
- Distraction by apara prakriti
- Looking for happiness in the temporary apara prakriti.
· Asura – Lowest form of human, no punyam.
· Sukritan- virtuous-punyam-acknowledge ishwara existence.
We talked about an incident when a monk went to a five-star restaurant and the same monk was begging a few weeks ago, when asked how that feeling was and how he feels now? He simply answered that it was not that bad and this is not that good. Equanimity in both scenarios .
Sukritan Types-
- Aarthi ( Bhakta in the time of need)
- Artharthi (Bhakta before doing anything)
- Jignasu (Bhakta who acknowledges God as a goal)
- Gyani ( who sees God as himself)
You need an anchor who is rock solid and permanent that is able to help us in troublesome times.
We watched Gurudev’s Video-
· Ch7 Verse 14- The boat to cross over maya-

When intellect cannot perceive anything, the mind projects its interpretation just like the snake and the rope example. Because of the mind’s non-apprehension of the higher reality it projects misinterpretations in the world of plurality. This is called maya power. It's very difficult to cross over this.
The remedy for this is contemplation. Contemplation means to turn all mental and intellectual attention towards higher. Through devotion one turns his emotional thoughts towards him and through rational thinking one thinks about the nature of reality.
· Ch7 Verse 15- Declare your desires

There are negative tendencies in us along with positive possibilities. As long as one turns their attention to him its possible to cross over. The Lord gives ample field to exhaust one’s vasanas.
· Ch7 Verse 16- Four types of worshippers (Part 1 and Part 2)

Gunas dictates how one approaches lord. Four types of people come to worship him.
- Men who are dissatisfied with even the best in life (Arttah). Buddha is an example of this.
- Seekers of knowledge and understanding, from a mere idle curiosity
- The third type of worshippers are tamasic, who are transactional.
- Fourth are the ones who are searching for knowledge of the Absolute.
